Meet the 'Mel' in Mel Brown Studios

Hello friends!

I thought it was about time I properly introduced myself. I’ve been blogging here since 2016 and I haven’t formally introduced myself…. how rude! J  That’s quite a few years of stories, photos and adventures, and a lot has changed since then.

If you have been with me a while…

! THANK YOU !

If you’re new here, this blog is an expression of creativity, inspiration, and growth. I’m basically your go-to for the wonderful authentic journeys we embark on, creatively bringing these beautiful stories to life; be it through photography or creating the framework for live action through production, where I spend each day learning, growing, pushing boundaries, and finding new ways to create!

Now a little about me…

Born and raised on Jersey, a little island just off the North of France, surrounded by the unpredictable ocean and windswept coastlines, I inherited my strong sense of community. Growing up in a small town meant that we all raised and supported each other, no one was left behind, which is something that has heavily influenced my professional life too.

Or as Immanuel Kant once said:

“The nice thing about living in a small town is that when you don’t know what you’re doing, someone else does.’

Which is where we arrive at the turning point where my creative journey started. At the sweet age of 16, I was destined to be a physiotherapist, alas, I leapt into the unknown world of art – much to the disappointment of my medically focused family – and I pursued a Photographic Arts Degree in London.

Although flying solo in the world of art, I knew this was where I was meant to be. A sense of peace and happiness forms a cocoon when I’m in this creative space.

I started off, fresh faced and eager wanting to be an Advertising photographer. Then I spent some time around advertising photographers and decided, I needed a different goal, one that was more team focused and people orientated.

I managed to get accepted into the best job ever… with the best team ever…. Madame Tussauds Studios, where we made the breath-taking wax figures of celebrities for all the attractions around the world. I was sent on wonderful photography adventures to meet some of the best names in all the businesses, to all the major cities with a dream team that I would do anything for.

For me though, the real cherry on the cake, was the level of growth on a daily basis. I was surrounded by perfectionists, creatives that were process led, in a world that was theirs to curate. The challenge of streamlining the sitting process to make it workable and efficient to the point where we could maximise the amount of information and photography we brought back for the team in London, was intoxicating.

Years, continents, and a wealth of experience later, it was time to move on. I realise that this fascination and obsession with teams and process was a strength and something I loved.

….So I moved into production.

A ‘few’ years on and many creative projects later, I have accumulated a wealth of experience not just in freelance photography but also in teamwork and adaptive problem solving, which, my friends, is far more valuable than anything you can learn in a textbook. The ability to be able to provide the same results in a variety of situations, some predictable, some expected and some very much not! Is something I pride myself on in how I can deliver to each and every one of my clients.

I’ve worked hard to get to the point where I have built a strong platform as an image maker both sides of the camera, that I can bring to the table for each person and business I work with. As a result, I’m able to craft or images that tell each story in its unique light. I can utilise years of knowledge to guide each business into their best avenue for print, digital, and visual communication.

In working across both disciplines, live action content production and photography I am able to learn and grow and adapt to each industry and be inspired by two very different worlds, full of very different creative minds. The ability to bring this to my clients and provide them with knowledgeable access to this supportive community is unique to my working style and ethic.

I am there to support and serve my clients and answer their needs rather than supply something off the rail, facilitating creative goals, breathing life into ideas and heart into a brief. And ultimately, I can proudly say, that’s what sets me apart.

Telling each unique brand story brings me so much joy, not only am I honoured to help tell these fantastic journeys for each business owner, but also get to play a part in lifting other visionaries up. Using my skill and life lessons to elevate them and help them grow their audience and communicate in different ways.

Crafting each collection of photos, organising each film and story, is not just a ‘bit of content’ to feed the social media monster (that we all secretly love). This is part of your journey, is a part of the brickwork in your own beautiful empire, your vision and a testament to your bravery and courage to bring your gifts to the world.

LET’S DO THIS!!

So, this is me in a nutshell – if you fancy the full-length version, you can find me rowing on the embankment, at my local, or online.

In all seriousness, if you’re a small business owner looking to outsource your visual content, or an experienced and wise hand taking your business to the next level, I am here to listen to you, to hear between the lines and to celebrate your story, your gifts and your unique strengths by helping you put your story and your dream into pictures.

Let us tell your unique story in a collection of images that are worthy of your business. Let’s celebrate the hours and love you have dedicated to your vision and share your story with the world.
