Creating your own path to greatness
“As human beings, our greatness lies not so much in being able to remake the world, but in being able to remake ourselves.”
– Mahatma Gandhi
Success is defined in different ways by different people. For one person it might be owning a large villa in the South of France, for someone else it may be running a small local business. But real success is less about money and status and more about the path towards achieving goals and dreams.
The path that may be right for one person but not so much for the other!
As you know – a question I am fond of, is ‘what does success look like to you?’ when applied to each situation – it can open up a whole new world of understanding on what makes you tick and more importantly, what your version of greatness looks like to you! Once that becomes clear – you are on your way to creating your very own path towards your very own greatness.
We live in a results-driven society, where end results seem to matter the most, but they may come at a high price. We sacrifice everything for short-term success, which is not a feasible long-term option. So, I’ve done some digging, and asked myself what does success look like – what is my perspective on my own greatness? … and then, how to get there in a more balanced, sustainable way.
Today, I’d like to share with you, five tips that have taken me a great deal of time and love to refine, these tips, are here to help you take the first step on the fantastic journey of creating your own path to – long-term - greatness.
Self-Acceptance. Before you get into creating a beautiful action plan, I find it’s super important to start with yourself. A mini mind and body MOT so to speak. By accepting our past behaviours and habits, we can see opportunities more clearly and ultimately grow.
Visualise your dream. Next up, on your way to creating your path to greatness is a very important step. Scribble your ideas down on a piece of paper, no matter how big or small your dreams and goals are. By visualising our desired outcome, we begin to ‘see’ the possibility of achieving it. If writing isn’t your thing, try manifesting your dreams with a mood board.
Get going. There is no shortcut for success so it’s important to note down the individual steps and to-dos for achieving your goals. Once you’ve sifted through the list, divide them into two piles and break them down into ten steps. Don’t worry about the steps being equal - focus on what you have capacity for today!
Set deadlines. Instead of picking a random – and unrealistic – date, set a deadline that feels real. Emotional connection to your goal is everything.
Check-in with yourself. Ask yourself every day - if there is one thing I can do today to get me closer to my dream - what would it be? And then go do it!
What I’m trying to say here, you’re the CEO of your own life and it’s in your hands to make decisions that drive the vision you’ve always dreamt of.
Accepting and believing that you’re in control of your life can give you a great sense of strength and power, which in turn can be the motor for finding your path, the right path.
And that’s exactly what matters the most, right?
As always, I totally believe in you, and I encourage you to get started now. It’s never too late to live an epic life.
